LANAP Laser Periodontal Treatment · Millburn, NJ

Gum Disease Treatment Without the Scalpel

Most people delay gum treatment for years — not because they don’t want to heal, but because they’re afraid of what treatment involves. LANAP changes that entirely. No cutting, no stitches, and most patients return to their normal day within 24 hours.

FDA-Cleared Procedure

The only FDA-cleared laser surgery proven to regenerate bone, gum tissue, and root attachment — the three components required for long- term tooth stability.

LANAP-Certified Provider

Our periodontist holds full LANAP certification and has performed this procedure with documented, sustained results for patients across New Jersey.

Safe for Medically Complex Patients

LANAP is approved for patients on blood thinners, those with diabetes, and pregnant women who cannot safely under go conventional gum surgery.

Recognizing the Signs of Gum Disease

Gum disease is quiet. It doesn’t always announce itself with obvious pain — which is why most people don’t address it until it’s advanced. If any of the following sounds familiar, a LANAP consultation could change the trajectory of your oral and whole-body health.
"My gums bleed when I brush."
Bleeding gums are one of the earliest and most consistent signs of periodontal infection. This is not normal and should not be dismissed as routine.
"I've been told I need gum surgery but I'm scared."
Most patients who seek LANAP have been told they need traditional gum surgery and spent months — sometimes years — putting it off. LANAP exists precisely for those patients.
"My gums are pulling away from my teeth."
Gum recession exposes the tooth root and signals active bone loss. With LANAP, the tissue can reattach and further progression can be stopped.
"I take blood thinners or have a health condition."
Many patients are told they’re not candidates for gum surgery due to medical complexity. LANAP is approved for patients who cannot safely have conventional surgery.
"I have diabetes, heart disease, or an autoimmune condition."
Periodontal infection drives systemic inflammation. Treating it with LANAP has been shown in clinical studies to improve blood glucose control in diabetic patients.
"I have persistent bad breath I can't fix."
Chronic halitosis that doesn’t resolve with brushing is often driven by bacterial colonies living deep in gum pockets — something LANAP directly targets and eliminates.

Why the Laser Changes Everything

Conventional periodontal surgery cuts the gums open, scrapes the roots, and sutures
everything closed. It works, but the recovery is significant and the psychological barrier
keeps many patients from getting the treatment they need.

What to Expect at Your LANAP Appointment

The procedure is completed at our Millburn office. Most patients receive treatment for the full mouth in two appointments of about two hours each.

01

Assessment & Mapping
Digital X-rays and a thorough gum pocket depth assessment tell us exactly where disease is present and how advanced the bone loss is before we begin.

02

Laser Treatment
A fiber thinner than a human hair is placed gently between teeth and gums. The laser selectively eliminates bacteria and infected tissue while healthy tissue is left completely intact.

03

Ultrasonic Cleaning
An ultrasonic instrument removes calculus buildup from root surfaces — the deposits that harbor the bacteria driving the disease.

04

Sealing & Healing
The laser compresses the pocket and creates a natural clot that seals the site as healing begins. No stitches required — recovery starts immediately.

Hear It From Dr. Gashinsky

Before committing to any procedure, you should understand exactly what it involves and why we recommend it. Dr. Gashinsky walks through what the LANAP laser does inside the pocket and why it’s the right approach for patients with moderate to severe gum disease.
If you’d prefer to speak directly, our consultations are complimentary and completely pressure-free.

What Our Patients Say About LANAP

I had been told I needed gum surgery for two years and kept canceling. A friend recommended Dr. Gashinsky and I finally went through with LANAP. The next morning I was completely back to normal. I wish I hadn't waited so long.

I'm on blood thinners and was told by my regular dentist I wasn't a candidate for periodontal surgery. Holistic Dental Center treated me with LANAP without any complications. The care I received was genuinely unlike anything I had experienced before.

My periodontist had flagged bone loss and I was scared. The whole experience at Holistic Dental Center was calming. They explained everything clearly. The procedure itself was almost comfortable — and recovery was nothing like I feared.

Your LANAP Questions Answered

Is LANAP covered by dental insurance?
Yes. LANAP is covered by most dental insurance plans as an FDA-cleared treatment for periodontal disease. Our front desk team will verify your specific coverage before your appointment so there are no surprises.
A deep cleaning removes deposits from root surfaces but does not eliminate all bacteria and does not stimulate tissue or bone regeneration. LANAP goes further — the laser targets and destroys bacteria selectively, seals the pocket, and stimulates the regrowth of bone and gum tissue. Clinical studies show LANAP produces measurably better outcomes on pocket depth, bleeding, and bacterial levels than deep cleaning alone.
Most patients return to work and normal activities the day after their procedure — often the same evening. Recovery is dramatically different from traditional gum surgery. There are no sutures to manage, no significant swelling, and pain is typically mild and manageable with over-the-counter medication.
Most patients complete full-mouth LANAP treatment in two appointments of approximately two hours each, typically scheduled one to two weeks apart. Follow-up appointments for monitoring are scheduled at three, six, and twelve months.
LANAP is the only periodontal procedure with FDA clearance specifically for the regeneration of bone, gum tissue, and root surface attachment. Multiple peer-reviewed studies confirm bone regeneration visible on X-rays after LANAP treatment, including studies published in Lasers in Medical Science.
Very likely yes. LANAP is approved for patients who take blood thinners, are diabetic, are pregnant, or have other conditions that make conventional surgery risky. We recommend scheduling a consultation so we can review your specific medical history and confirm your candidacy.
Studies show 98% of patients report stable, sustained outcomes at five years after treatment. Maintaining results requires proper home care and regular periodontal maintenance visits, which we customize to your needs following treatment.
