What Makes Holistic Dentistry Different from Conventional – & What That Means for You

If you’re a patient of ours, you probably already know that our approach is quite different from conventional dentistry. But it’s always good to understand exactly why we do things differently and how that benefits you. Let’s take a look at some of the key differences…

Our Philosophy: The Body as an Interconnected System

The core philosophy behind holistic dentistry is that the health of your mouth is intimately connected with the health of your entire body. We don’t just look at and treat your teeth and gums in isolation. Everything is interconnected, physically and energetically.

Conventional dentistry takes a more localized, mechanical view of the mouth and tends to focus narrowly on “fixing” dental issues as they arise. As a holistic dental practice, we start with an emphasis on prevention and focus on ways we can support your whole body health through optimal oral health.

Our Goal: Optimizing Wellness

Our goal is to help you achieve lifelong oral health through prevention and education, not just drill and fill or do surgical procedures when things go wrong. When dental problems do arise, we seek not just to provide symptom relief but to treat the root causes and take the most conservative, least invasive approach to setting things right.

The conventional approach is more about relieving acute symptoms and doing repair work as needed. Prevention isn’t always a priority.

Holistic Materials & Biocompatibility Testing

We carefully vet all dental materials to pick those with the best biocompatibility for each patient. That means choosing materials your body recognizes as natural, so they don’t trigger immune reactions. Biocompatibility testing is available to ensure that the materials we choose are a good fit for your unique biochemistry.
This is not a priority in conventional dentistry, where metals, chemicals, and other materials are routinely used, even though they can have a negative effect on your systemic health and well-being.

As a holistic dental office, we are fluoride-free and BPA-free; mercury-free and mercury-safe. All of the fillings, crowns, implants, and other dental work we provide are entirely metal-free.

Gentler, More Precise Technology

Modern holistic dentists use the latest technology such as digital imaging, intraoral cameras, dental lasers, medical grade ozone, and platelet rich fibrin (PRF). These options let us be extremely precise and treat issues at very early stages, as well as provide extra support for the body’s natural healing abilities. Our advanced technology allows us to take a minimally invasive approach to your care.
Conventional drilling and filling tends to be more aggressive and traumatic to the teeth, as issues often progress further before treatment.

The Debrief: Better Patient Experiences

With our biocompatible materials, laser precision, and conservative treatments, we keep our patients comfortable through procedures and give them the best chance for quick, painless recovery. We also take time to explain what we’re doing and why at each step so you stay informed.

Conventional dental visits can often feel more stressful and mysterious for patients since communication isn’t emphasized. Procedures usually involve less comfortable materials and more intense drilling.

There are good reasons we do things differently at the Holistic Dental Center of New Jersey, where our patients’ total health and well-being are always front of mind. It’s a difference that patients like you value most. Just listen to what some of them have to say about their experience with us and why they’ve made our office their dental home…
