Holistic Root Canals
We understand that you may have seen or heard quite a lot of controversy and contradictory information on the subject of Root Canals. Our focus at Holistic Dental Center is on you as an individual with your teeth and your health. Please read the information on this page carefully and ask questions. We are always available to discuss this issue as we feel a real responsibility to inform people properly. We want people to have all of the information so that they can confidently make up their own minds.
For even more information on the subject, read Dr. Gashinsky’s more comprehensive article, Is a Root Canal the Right Thing to Do For You?
At Holistic Dental Center we neither oppose nor promote root canals. The fact of the matter, from our viewpoint, is that in the case of dental problems that affect the roots of the teeth, it is improper and irresponsible to say that there is any single treatment that can be definitively prescribed for every case. Root Canals, as well as alternative solutions, carry risks and benefits and each patient’s particular situation should be assessed on an individual basis.
What we can say is that, generally, there are two solutions to problems of the roots of teeth:
1. We can pull the tooth and…
…replace it with a bridge.
…replace it with an implant.
2. We can perform Holistic Root Canals
We pay close attention to how safe it is to do the root canal on a patient-by-patient basis and we recommend on and help you to make the best decision regarding saving the tooth or taking it out.
How Do We Decide On Our Recommendation?
We use two primary indicators in determining what is the best solution for each individual patient.
Meridian Tooth Chart
The first of these is the Meridian Tooth Chart (see below). Each tooth is related to various organs, tissues and glands in the body on a particular meridian or “energy highway.” This connection is so apparent that an experienced dentist can often assess your overall health and wellness by reviewing your dental condition. If a person has a weak internal organ, the condition of the associated meridian tooth could make it considerably more problematic. This chart can show the connection of the “sick” tooth to the connected organ in our body.
If a patient is having any trouble with the organs that are connected to the “sick” tooth as indicated by the Meridian Tooth Chart – WE WILL NOT RECOMMEND TO SAVE THIS TOOTH.
Patient’s Medical History & Condition
In addition to The Meridian Chart, we also consult the patient’s medical history to help us to evaluate and determine whether the root canal will be advisable to the patient or not.
If patients have any allergies or their immune system is compromised with any auto-immune disease – WE WILL NOT RECOMMEND TO SAVE THIS TOOTH.
To learn more about how a weakened immune system can put you at risk when getting a Root Canal, read my article, Is a Root Canal the Right Thing to Do For You?
If We Do Feel That the Tooth is Viable, Then Extra Steps are Taken to Perform a Holistic Root Canal.
Here we will use Calcium Hydroxide. There is only one medication that is commonly considered to be able to really eradicate even the most drug resistant bacteria in the tooth, calcium hydroxide. Calcium hydroxide has been proven to be more powerful than modern pharmaceutical because of its ability to change the pH of the tooth to an alkaline environment. This is used for a period of 2 to 3 weeks.
We also sterilize the canals with Ozone therapeutics including Ozone gas and Ozonated water. Lasers are also used to eradicate the bacteria.
Your answer to the question of whether or not you need a root canal starts with a one-on-one consultation with us where we can walk you through your particular options, give you the best advice available for your particular situation, answer all of your questions and help you make the best decision for you.
